This week we are watching the story of WALL E and what it shows us about humanity. There are three main topics we are looking at: the Environment, Health and Technology addiction. WALL E is a vision into our potential dystopian future should we continue on the path we are on. We will be doing activities in class and assignments outside of class based around these topics. My hope is that you look around your world and connect what we talk about with what you see going on.
For our first topic, the Environment, is about our habits now and how much stuff we have and waste. The video below is called “The Story of Stuff” and examines what we buy, where it comes from and what waste we produce. Watch the video and collaborate with other students on the discussion questions below.
- Come up with a plan to fix each of the 5 parts of the cycle
- where are the limits for each part?
- Who holds the power in this system?
- How do you and I gain more power?
- Where are the toxins in this system?
- How are “cheap” products costing us more than $?
- What is the difference between human cost, material cost and dollar cost?
- Describe planned obsolenscence and perceived obsolencences
